2017 winds down, so Hello 2018!

November 20, 2017

It’s that time of year again

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler, and so another growing season comes to a close. All of us at Jungle Jack's Plumeria would like to thank you, our customers and fans, for your continued support and encouragement. We work pretty hard at what we do and the occasional kind word and positive feedback means a lot to us. It's not just the new varieties, but improvements in our Online Store, new photos, and updates to our mail order process.

Wider range of photos

If you want to see the color variations that occur in differing, local climates, check out our webpage and Facebook page. We've adding a wider variety of photos taken at our Vista, CA greenhouses as well as from our JJ fans so you get an idea of what the blooms look like in high heat or cool weather. We post new pictures all the time, and we hope this will give you a better understanding of how a flower's color, shape and size varies with local climate, amount of sunshine, temperatures and humidity.

A few notes about the 2017 season

You may have noticed that our introduction schedule was fairly light, and there are a couple reasons behind this. The main reason is that we got so busy this year we just didn’t have time to focus on naming and launching more than a handful of new JJ varieties. As many of you know, coming up with a good, unique name isn’t the easiest thing to do, and there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into each announcement.

A second reason is we realized that introducing too many varieties, even exceptional ones, too close together can be counterproductive. In some cases, some really nice flowers are not getting the attention they deserve. Hopefully by spacing the releases out a bit more will allow more focus to be paid to each one. It's still exciting for us, because we have plenty of cool new stuff in the pipeline.

If you missed our 2017 new varieties, here's a recap!

New, updated catalog

…mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. We fully intended to publish a 2017 edition, but it fell victim to a familiar culprit: so much to do, so little time. However, I can announce with some certainty (and more than a little optimism) that we will have our third edition out early next season.

2018 Catalog Highlights

  • Roughly new 60 varieties not represented in the previous catalogs

  • About 25 varieties being dropped from the catalog, but still available via mail order or retail sales

  • Growth habit of every variety

  • Scent information when available

  • Improved photos

As in the previous catalogs, the majority of the photos are from our Thai groves, shot around dormant season when I'm taking cuttings. And yes, I’m well aware I’m not the world’s greatest photographer, and no, I don’t get upset when I’m reminded of that fact!

More news to come!
